Hello,I’m Sharona Sommer

Helping Families Navigate the Transition to Adulthood with Clarity, Compassion, and Confidence

The transition to adulthood can be one of the most emotional and uncertain times a family will face — especially when a young person is neurodiverse.

Parents are often trying to support growing independence while wondering how much to step in, when to step back, and how to stay connected through it all.

This is the work I care deeply about.

I work with parents of neurodiverse teens and young adults to help them understand what their child needs to thrive and how to support that journey without getting in the way of it.

The Work That Led Me Here

The parents I work with are some of the most devoted I've ever met — showing up in ways that often go unseen, carrying the weight of worry quietly, and doing it mostly alone.

Many are parenting a young adult whose path looks different from what they expected — whether due to ADHD, anxiety, autism, or other neurodiverse traits that make this transition even more complex.

They weren't falling short. They were carrying something heavy without the right tools or support to move forward.

You don't have to figure this out alone

When you truly understand what your young adult is navigating — and have the right tools to respond — things start to shift. For you, and for them.

  • Are you afraid that stepping in too much will push them away, and stepping back feels impossible?

  • Are you unsure when to step in, when to step back, or why conversations feel so loaded?

  • Do you feel like no matter what you do, it's never quite the right thing?

  • What if you could finally understand what's going on beneath the surface and find a way forward that works for everyone?

A Personalized Approach for Every Family

My approach is personalized, compassionate, and collaborative. I meet families where they are, without judgment and without a one-size-fits-all agenda.

This work is not about pushing families into someone else’s idea of progress. It is about identifying strengths, clarifying goals, and taking practical next steps that make sense for the family in front of me. A big part of that process is helping parents step back in healthy ways, stay connected, and support their child’s growth with greater intention.

Guided by Experience, Grounded in Understanding

With more than 35 years of experience working with individuals with learning differences and their families, I've supported countless families through the complicated transition into adulthood.

This work is also personal. As the parent of two neurodiverse adults, I know firsthand that this journey rarely goes in a straight line. I know what it's like to hold hope and uncertainty at the same time — and to want desperately to help without always knowing how.

That lived experience shapes everything I do. Families don't need more judgment or pressure. They need support that is knowledgeable, compassionate, and grounded in real understanding.

Let’s Talk

If your family is navigating an uncertain time and you're not sure what the next step should be, you don't have to figure it out alone.

A discovery call is simply a conversation — a chance to talk about what's feeling hard, where you feel stuck, and what support might help you move forward with more clarity and confidence.
